Cadence ("Cadence", "we", "us") is a family household organiser — shared chores, fixes, shopping, calendar, skills and rewards for one household. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we never do with it. It covers the Cadence web app at https://familycadence.app and the Cadence iOS app.

The short version

  • We collect only what the app needs to work for your household.
  • We do not sell your data, show ads, or run any analytics or tracking — there are no third-party trackers in Cadence.
  • Your household's data is visible only to members of your household.
  • Google Calendar access is optional, and used only to put your own appointments on your own calendar.

What we collect

Account information

Your email address, used to sign you in. Cadence is passwordless — you sign in with a one-time link/code emailed to you, or a passkey (Face ID / Touch ID) if you set one up. Authentication is handled by Supabase (see third parties below).

Household content you enter

This is the data you and your family create in the app:

  • People: household name; the display names and roles (parent / teen / kid) of members you add.
  • Chores & fixes: zones, categories, tasks, subtasks, who they're assigned to, and completion history (who completed what, and when).
  • Skills: skill definitions and each kid's progress and earned rewards.
  • Shopping: list items and categories.
  • Calendar: appointments (title, notes, attendees, date/time) and away periods.
  • Key Contacts: details you choose to save for people who help your household — e.g. a plumber, vet, doctor or school — including name, company, phone, email, website and notes. Please only add details you're entitled to store.
  • Money: reward and allowance amounts, wallet and helper ledger entries, pay schedule, and any figures you enter on the Summit tab (which can include a mortgage balance and credit scores). This is financial information — it is stored for your household only and is never shared or sold.
  • Location setting: the postal code, state and any extra places you set for the "What's On" tab.
  • Invitations: the email address of anyone you invite to your household.

Technical data

Standard server and hosting logs (such as IP address and request time) are processed by our hosting providers to deliver and secure the service. We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking; storage on your device is used only to keep you signed in and to remember your app preferences.

How we use it

  • To provide the app: showing your household's chores, calendar, lists and rewards to your household.
  • To sign you in and keep your session secure.
  • To send transactional email you ask for — sign-in links and household invitations.
  • To fetch local events for the "What's On" tab, and to draft a skill when you use "Generate from a description".
  • To add appointments to your Google Calendar, if you connect one.

We do not use your data to train machine-learning models, and we do not profile you for advertising.

Google Calendar (optional)

If a parent connects a Google account, Cadence requests the calendar.events scope plus your basic profile email. We use it in one direction only: to create, update and delete the appointments Cadence itself manages on your calendar. We do not read your existing calendar events into Cadence.

We store your Google account email, the calendar you selected, and the access and refresh tokens needed to keep the connection working. Tokens are held server-side, are never sent to the browser or the app, and are protected so that only the server-side sync can use them.

Limited Use: Cadence's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer or sell Google user data, do not use it for advertising, and do not use it to train generalised AI/ML models. Humans do not read your Google data except where you have explicitly asked us to for support, where required for security, or where required by law.

You can disconnect at any time in Settings → Calendar. Doing so deletes the stored tokens for your household. You can also revoke access from your Google account permissions page.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We use a small number of service providers to run the app:

  • Supabase — database and authentication hosting (stores your account and household data).
  • Netlify — web hosting and delivery.
  • Perplexity AI — powers the "What's On" event search and the optional "Generate a skill" feature. We send only the search inputs: your configured location (postal code, state, any extra places) and, for skill generation, the short description you type. We do not send your family's names, chores, contacts or financial data.
  • Google — only if you connect Google Calendar, as described above.

We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of users.

Children's data

Cadence is designed for a household and is set up and controlled by a parent. Children do not sign themselves up — a parent creates the household and adds family members. The data held about a child is limited to what a parent enters or what the child records in the app: a display name, chore and skill progress, and reward amounts.

We do not knowingly collect more personal information from children than this, we do not show children advertising, and we do not sell or share their data. A parent can edit or remove a family member and their data in the app at any time, or contact us to have it removed.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your household's data for as long as your household uses Cadence. Some content is cleaned up automatically — for example completed fixes are purged after about 30 days.

You can delete individual items — tasks, contacts, appointments, members and so on — directly in the app at any time. To request deletion of your account and your whole household's data, email ross.pringle@gmail.com from your account's email address and we will delete it.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with our hosting providers. Access to your household's data is enforced at the database level, so members of one household cannot read another household's data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information — including never exposing third-party access tokens to the browser.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Most of this you can do yourself in the app; for anything else, contact us at ross.pringle@gmail.com and we will respond.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
